Grassroots Effort to Relocate Camp
Camp Summit endeavors to raise $4.5 million dollars to
relocate its facility to Sunset. The current location is
leased property in what was once a rural area but is now
surrounded by development. With only 4 years left before the
lease expires and we must relocate, it is now more important
than ever that we have your support. To date, $2.4 million
has been raised through a grass roots effort of over 700
volunteers and donors. Families of our remarkable campers
have sent an estimated 1,000 letters and emails on behalf of
the Campaign. Some have hosted gift giving parties, a
Bowl-a-thon and even ran a marathon to drum up support of
our relocation effort. We are in the last phase of
fundraising and time is running out. Do your part to help

New Cabin Sponsorship Opportunities Available at Campsite
A limited number of cabin sponsorship opportunities are
available at the new Sunset, TX campsite. By sponsoring a
cabin you will have the unique opportunity to be part of the
Camp Summit legacy. Your support of Camp Summit will be
memorialized in the hearts and minds of our campers for
generations to come. An official naming ceremony will honor
each of our cabin sponsors after construction commences. For

Camp Summit rises to the
challenge with a successful ‘Meet the Challenge Campaign.’
Late 2005 the family of two former campers committed a
matching gift of $500,000 if Camp Summit raised the same
amount from individual donors by December 2006. Our victory
over this challenge campaign is a great milestone for the
Capital Campaign making 2006 the most successful year of the
Campaign to date. But our work is not over! It is now more
important than ever that you continue supporting the effort
to ensure Camp Summit continues serving our remarkable
campers without interruption. |
The goal of Camp Summit’s Capital Campaign is to raise the necessary
funds to build an entirely new camp facility in Sunset, Texas. This
project began as soon as it became obvious that the land surrounding
our current campground was being transformed from the once tranquil
environment enjoyed by so many campers for nearly 60 years, to an
urbanized, residential community.
We have acquired 150 acres of land for a new campsite in Sunset,
Texas. Sunset is located northwest of the present site, bordering
Wise and Montague Counties near Decatur. Plans for initial
relocation of the camp include: a main building, which will house
the kitchen, dining hall, medical facilities, and administrative
offices, on-site maintenance facilities, in addition to a swimming
pool and 3 cabin clusters that will house 9 cabins. To date, the
Campaign has raised $2.4 million of the $4.5 million necessary to
relocate the camp facility.
Unlike requests for annual
support and events, this campaign provides our donors with an
opportunity to leave a permanent legacy of support and compassion for
disabled children, youth and adults. This is a one-time effort to invite
the entire North Texas philanthropic community to support a project that
will serve thousands of people with disabilities and their families.
With your support, the following changes will ensure that Camp Summit
continues to provide a residential camping experience for children,
youth and adults with disabilities in a safe, natural environment:
• Modernized facilities and exciting new buildings
• Enhanced privacy and security for campers
• Additional space allowing more campers from waiting lists
• Expanded programming area
