Q: How long are the sessions?
A: Camp Summit offers weekly sessions according to age and disability during the summer.  We also offer weekend sessions in the spring and fall.

Q: What is your camper-to-counselor ratio?
A: Our camper-to-counselor ratio is two campers to every one counselor at all times.  However, there are specific situations when we are able to arrange a one-on-one ratio.

Q: What are the age requirements and qualifications for campers?
A: We accept campers starting at age six and continuing through adulthood.  Camp Summit places no stipulation on the degree of disability.

Q: Whom does Camp Summit serve?
A: We serve all people regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, political beliefs, sex, age*, religion, disability or national origin.  *Age level begins at six years old.

Q: How many campers can you accommodate at one time?
A: Camp Summit's capacity varies depending on each disability group.  The sessions will serve a maximum of 80 campers.

Q: What about persons with specific dietary needs?
A: Camp Summit accommodates specific dietary needs as requested.

Q: How do you screen your staff?
A: Both paid staff and volunteers at Camp Summit are required to go through an extensive interview process and pass a thorough criminal background check.

Q: What type of medical staff do you have?
A: Camp Summit has an on-site health center with on-staff registered nurses 24 hours a day and a doctor on-call 24 hours, who makes weekly visits.

Q: What geographic areas do you serve?
A: A large portion of campers comes from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, but we also have campers from all over the United States.

Q: Do you provide transportation to camp?
A: Transportation to and from local airports is available at an additional cost.  Campers needing transportation should contact the Dallas office at (972) 484-8900.

Q: Is Camp Summit accredited?
A: Yes.  Camp Summit is accredited by the American Camping Association and licensed as a youth camp by the Texas Department of Health.

Q: What special educational programs do you offer?
A: Camp Summit offers nature studies, adventure trips and specialized programs that can be tailored to be educational and/or recreational.  Most of our special educational programs are available on a year-round basis.

Q: How is Camp Summit funded?
A: As a non-profit organization, our funding comes from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, individuals, foundations and private and corporate donations.

Q: How can I support Camp Summit?
A: There are a variety of ways you can support Camp Summit. 

In addition to financial donations, you can:

  • Donate supplies

  • Donate services

  • Become a camp counselor

  • Provide office support

  • Volunteer at special events

  • Assist with fund-raising and public relations

  • Organize and participate in work-site projects
