Spring 2016 Update

Camp Sweet Camp in Paradise, Texas!

​

Camp Summit celebrated the grand opening of our new camp in Paradise, Texas on Saturday April 2, 2016.  Over 700 guests including campers, families, donors and friends enjoyed the wonderful weather and beautiful surroundings of our new camp on 460 acres of rural and picturesque land to help us kick off this new chapter for Camp Summit.

Even though we have moved-in and began camp programs with our Spring Break sessions in March, the campaign team is working hard to raise the remaining dollars to achieve the goal and have a successful campaign.

Thanks to our generous donors and loyal supporters we are proud to announce that we have raised $10.7 million of the $13.6 million dollar goal.  Achieving this goal in 2016, will ensure the final renovations can be completed and Camp Summit will be able to focus future fundraising on programming needs of the campers at the new location.

As momentum for the “Opening Gates” Campaign continues to build there are still ways you can become involved to share your energy and expertise:

  • Suggest a potential donor for Camp Summit to contact

  • Spread the word about Camp Summit to others who may enjoy the program

  • Volunteer to help at events and fairs that let others know about Camp Summit

Opening Gates Project Details

This campaign offers Camp Summit the opportunity to own a property and design the features, activity areas, and structures to meet our camper’s unique needs.  Our forever home means, Camp Summit will be able to do even more to provide barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster independence for people with disabilities.  Plus, the new site will give us room for future growth, new camper programs, community use and collaborative programs that support our mission.

Some of the exciting new features of our new camp include:

​

  • Remodeled log cabins that will accommodate our 2:1 camper-to-staff ratio, with bathrooms designed for maximum accessibility and convenience;

  • Larger dining area!  All campers can congregate and eat together in the beautiful lodge featuring the original stone fireplace;

  • New pool with beach entry and two splash pads. Provides opportunity for campers to enter the pool independently and/or, for those who don’t want to swim, the opportunity to experience water-play at the splash pads;

  • Enhanced nature experience and outdoor learning opportunities throughout the scenic landscapes on the camp property;

  • Expanded accessible program areas including larger inclement weather activity space;

  • Medical facility designed for our medical staff and campers comfort;

  • Rural location, with a buffer from roads and dense neighborhoods.

 

So as you can see, this is an exciting and transformational time for Camp Summit.  Our forever home will ensure our camping programs will be available for today’s campers and for the many generations of campers to come!
