Camp Summit Covid-19 Statement - March 23, 2020
Dear Camp Summit participants and supporters:
First and foremost we would like to tell you how much we appreciate each and every one of you – you are the heart of Camp Summit.
As you are aware, there is a lot of uncertainly right now due to COVID-19. Camp Summit has continued to monitor the CDC, WHO, Local, State, and Federal regulations.
We are aware that these evolving restrictions may impact Camp Summit’s summer sessions. As of right now, we have made the tough decisions to cancel our second week of spring break camp (March 15-20) and our spring weekend camp (April 17-19), but have not yet made a decision about summer sessions. If the summer sessions are altered, we will notify those enrolled by email and make a general announcement on our website and social media channels. Concerns regarding funds will be addressed at that time.
With the most recent shelter in place order for Dallas County, our corporate offices are closed, March 24 – April 3, 2020. We are still conducting business as our staff work from home. Please be patient as it may take a bit longer to receive a response during this time. In addition, our program staff are working on an at-home Camp Guide and will be releasing that via email in the coming days.
In addition, we have postponed The Jim and Linda Teague Golf Tournament benefiting Camp Summit from its original date of April 27th to August 31st. For more information on the tournament, please visit www.campsummittx.org/golf2020.
We want to thank you for your continued patience and support. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email or call us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 972-484-8900.
Providing a residential camping experience for people with disabilities since 1947.
Camp Summit is a one-of-a-kind camp for individuals with disabilities where the emphasis is on each campers' abilities rather than their disabilities. Traditional camp activities are adapted to each individual, provided in our barrier-free facilities, and implemented by trained, caring staff. Our campers are grouped by age, providing the opportunity to make friends within peer groups while having fun and experiencing new adventures.
Camp Summit is located in Paradise, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on 460 acres of land. We are accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas.
Our goal is to help children and adults with disabilities reach their own personal peak by providing recreational, therapeutic and social activities in an authentic, natural camp setting. The benefits of our camping program are endless! Campers are encouraged to try new experiences in order to gain self-confidence, increase personal independence and learn cooperation.
At Camp Summit, we never turn away a camper due to the severity of a disability, or an inability to pay.
Our campers may be:
(cerebral palsy, spina bifida, paralysis, etc.)
(Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disabilities, etc.)
(no upper age limit)
Camp Summit relies on the generosity of friends in the community to assist us in achieving our mission and giving our remarkable campers a unique camping experience. There are many ways to become involved and support our camping program. Whether you make a financial gift, shop for the cause, share your time through volunteering, or gather a group together for a volunteer project your support is always appreciated.
Help make the dreams of our campers come true by choosing an easy way to show your support for Camp Summit today.
WE DID IT!
Camp Summit exceeds $13.6 million goal
Opening Gates Capital Campaign!
The new facilities are barrier-free, and campers can enjoy exploring and picking out their favorite places - like the aquatic area with pool and splash pads, or the endless paths and trails in the nature area, or the recreation center where our big dance is held weekly. Camp Summit is very proud of our camper families, community, and donors who helped sustain the momentum to raise the needed funds and successfully complete this project! But even more importantly, we are so very pleased to have created a place that campers can call their own! To quote one of our campers, the program areas are “super fun and incredible!”
