Administrative

Carla R. Weiland

President and Chief Executive Officer

Carla joined Camp Summit in 2003. Carla comes to Camp Summit with a varied background in Non-Profit and Camp management.  She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation.  She has worked with numerous camps throughout the country and serves as the Texoma Section Chair of the Local Council of Leaders for the American Camp Association (ACA). She is a 2001 graduate of the Leadership Richardson program and involved in many community organizations. Carla is inspired by our campers daily and continues to be an advocate for camping and providing services for individuals with disabilities.

Julie Bishop

Executive Assistant/Bookkeeper

Julie joined Camp Summit in February 2018.  She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.  Julie is the mother of two girls and spends her spare time enjoying their activities and going to Disney World.  She is thrilled to be a part of the Camp Summit team!

Luis Reyes

Registrar/Receptionist

 

Luis Reyes joined Camp Summit in September 2016. Luis holds a Bachelor of Arts in History (with Honors) from Southwestern University and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Tulane University. After serving three terms of service with AmeriCorps as a VISTA in New Orleans, Luis’s passion for social justice and for advocating on behalf of marginalized communities deepened. Having grown up with congenital glaucoma since infancy, Luis sought out opportunities to advocate for people  with disabilities upon moving to the DFW area in March 2016. In June, Luis began his career in working with the disabled communities of North Texas through the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind as an intern. Now, as a member of the Camp Summit staff, Luis seeks to utilize his skills in community outreach, networking, and project development to expand the impact of Camp Summit’s mission and goals.

Abbey Cumnock

Marketing and PR Manager

 

Abbey joined the Camp Summit team in October 2019. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Strategic Communication. Abbey has been volunteering with numerous non-profits since she was young and is excited to combine her passion for philanthropy with her love of marketing in this role. When she is not volunteering or at work, she enjoys spending time with her dog or hosting dinners with her friends.

Stephanie Martin

Billing Specialist

Stephanie joined Camp Summit in October of 2016.  She is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in Habilitation of the Deaf.  Stephanie comes to Camp Summit with over 15 years of experience in teaching and advocating for children with hearing impairments.  She is thrilled to combine her skills with account services developed in the corporate sector with her life-long passion for children and adults with disabilities to further Camp Summit’s mission.  Stephanie is a mother of four and spends her spare time enjoying her active life with sons.

Program

Lisa Braziel

Director of Camp Operations and Strategy

 

Lisa graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Speech Language Pathology in 1990.  She also is certified by the State of Texas as a Special Education Teacher. She began working as a camp counselor in 1990 and has worked every summer since.  She was hired on full time in 1996 and served as Camp Director from 1998-2017. She has a passion for serving individuals with special needs and loves to see the campers achieve new heights at camp. Lisa enjoys geocaching and traveling in her spare time with a goal to visit every state.

Amanda Davis

Camp Director

 

Amanda graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Special Education: Severe/Profound with Multiple Disabilities.  She has several years of camping experience, including Camp Director for a weekend residential camp program serving individuals with disabilities before joining Camp Summit in 2017. Amanda’s passion is serving individuals with special needs and their families and building community support to increase awareness and help them have more options in their community.

Luisa Moeller

Healthcare Supervisor​

Luisa (Lulu) began working seasonally with Camp Summit in 2009 after her freshman year at Baylor. While school took her many places over the years, including to study abroad and to obtain her doctorate in nursing practice, she always came back to Camp. With school done, she is humbled and excited to see what she can bring to Camp in her capacity as Healthcare Supervisor.

Development

Pam Chicol

Director of Development

 

Pam Chicol, Director of Development, joined the Camp Summit Development team in 2007.  She brings over 35 years of experience from a non-profit and sales background.  She has worked at all levels of organizations from direct service to executive management.  Pam is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Administration. She is a 1990 graduate of the Leadership Richardson program and a 2000 graduate of the Power of Self Leadership Program.  In her spare time, Pam enjoys golf, fly fishing, gardening and the outdoors.

Jeanie Lawson

Donor Relations Manager

A graduate of Texas A&M University and a former teacher and stay-at-home mom, Jeanie arrived at Camp Summit with 20 years of experience as a volunteer for several community non-profit organizations, including Camp Summit.  She is happiest when engaged in a good cause and is delighted to be in a position to help Camp Summit further its goals.

Jeanie is a mother of three grown children and a grandmother to three precious grandchildren. She enjoys hot yoga and creating handmade greeting cards for family and friends. In her spare time, she likes to travel and sail with her husband.

Catherine Ruiz-Esparza

Donor Information Coordinator

Catherine arrived to Camp Summit in April of 2018 with an administrative background as the Office Manager of a Psychiatric practice. She is a 2012 graduate of Austin College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. When she is away from Camp, she can be found contra dancing, hiking, gardening in her backyard, and listening to audio books during weekend camping trips with her partner Scott and dachshund Maggie.

Facility

Marty Gilbertson

Kitchen Manager

Marty joined Camp Summit in May 2014.  A Texas native he was excited to return to the Lone Star State after living away for many years.  Marty brings over 40 years of extensive food service experience to Camp, including 20 years in the U S Navy serving on several submarines and shore facilities.  He enjoys interacting with our Campers, and providing them with nutritious and enjoyable meals during their stay here at Camp Summit.

Larry Patterson

Facility Director

Larry is a Texas native born in Dallas. He spent 22 years in the Semiconductor Industry working for companies based in the United States, U.K., France-Italy, and Japan providing services in Equipment and Process Engineering, Device Development, Technology Transfer, R&D and Training associated with VLSI manufacturing and technology. Larry began working at Camp Summit in the summer of 2000.   “Since that time I have been blessed to be able to serve the camp meeting the needs of the Camp Summit facility, our staff, our campers and their families. My focus has always been to assure that Camp Summit is successful by providing a safe, clean, secure and sustainable environment that allows wonderful life changing experiences to continue for generations to come.” I enjoy spending time with family, woodworking, hunting, spinning vinyl, playing acoustic guitar, photography and long walks with Cathy, my sweetie.

Tom McQuitty

Facility Supervisor

Tom, an Alaska native, joined the Camp Summit team in 2014. He was previously the Facility Director of Garrett Creek Ranch Conference Center in Paradise, Texas, which is now the location of Camp Summit's Forever Home. Tom has over 35 years of experience in the maintenance field, working for various organizations as an Apartment Technician, Building Engineer, and Director of Maintenance. Tom has been married to his wife, Robin, for over 31 years and has a 23 year old son, Jacob, and two fur babies, Chica & Nyla, a Chi-wiener and Chihuahua. They love to spend time with family and friends, camp, hike, fish and travel and dine out whenever possible.​

Fredy Valdez

Facility Crewmember​

Fredy joined the Camp Summit team in 2014. He was previously on the Facility Team at Garrett Creek Ranch Conference Center in Paradise, Texas, which is now the location of Camp Summit's Forever Home. Fredy helps Camp Summit stay in tip top shape, taking care of the grounds, carpentry, plumbing, road maintenance, welding, and helping with all facility maintenance projects. He enjoys spending time with his family, his kittens, and raising chickens.
