Opening Gates Campaign
"Camp Sweet Camp"
Many of you have been following our journey as we set out to acquire, renovate and move Camp Summit to a new home in beautiful Paradise, Texas. Well, we are proud to say that with the passion and commitment of countless volunteers, donors, Board members, staff, campers and their families, “WE DID IT” and spent 2016 settling into our new “forever home!"
The new camp is AMAZING! Campers are enjoying larger cabins designed for their individual needs, numerous gathering areas for relaxing and socializing with friends, and the lodge which is large enough for the entire camp to have meals together.
The program areas are “SUPER FUN and INCREDIBLE,” to quote a camper. Campers are having a blast exploring and picking out their favorite places - like the Aquatic Area with a beach entry pool and splash pads, or the endless paths and trails throughout the nature area, or the Rec Center where the BIG dance is held weekly.
While our campers are enjoying their new adventures our “Opening Gates” Campaign also boasts some wonderful accomplishments.
$11.4MM of the $13.6MM goal has been raised;
Renovations were completed as planned;
And, new supporters and friends were found.
The new camp and the 25% increase in bed capacity has allowed Camp Summit to expand services and offer even more individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy nature and our premier camp in Paradise, Texas.
We have been successful in meeting our renovation and move-in timeline. As the final renovations and new features are being built and finished at camp, our team of capital campaign volunteers is continuing fundraising efforts. Through their efforts, new friends and supporters are being introduced to Camp Summit. With our expanding supporter base we are confident that we will achieve our goal of raising the remaining funds and secure a strong financial position for Camp Summit for future programmatic needs and growth.
